Monday March 31st, 2014, PHILADELPHIA— Kamelot Auctions will present their annual garden and architectural antiques auction on Saturday April 12th, 2014. Now in its ninth year running, Kamelot’s garden sale is a source for quality, one-of-a-kind garden and architectural pieces to include but certainly not limited to industrial and outdoor furnishings, stained glass, statuary, planters, urns, iron work, fountains, lighting, mantles, and many more architectural pieces and fragments.

Included among the sale’s 800 plus lots is a nice collection of fountains and fountain figures. Some of the featured pieces include a good French cast iron two tier fountain having a base comprised of four swans circa 1870 estimated to bring 3,000-$5,000 (lot 85). Lot 4 is a very good nineteenth Century Italian carved marble figural fountain having serpent wrapped putti with upraised arm supporting a shell and is expected to sell for $2,500-$3,500. And finally, a very good late nineteenth Century stamped A. Durenne cast iron fountain figure of Pan with upraised horn is estimated to bring $5,000-$8,000 (lot 51)

Exceptional planters and urns will also be offered in the sale. Most notably is a fine rare monumental pair of Neoclassical carved marble estate garden urns each having Greek key border over winged griffins circa 1880. The pair is thought to bring between $15,000-$25,000 at auction (lot 69). Other significant pieces include a very good pair of French Alfred Corneau cast iron urns circa 1880 (lot 34, 2,000-$3,000), a pair of late 19th Century monumental black painted cast iron garden urns having stylized leaf decoration (lot 72, $5,000-$8,000), and a pair of Galloway Art Deco buff terracotta urns, each having leaf garland and raised socles circa 1930 (lot 18, $1,500-$2,500).

The auction will feature a select group of lots hailing from prominent American manufacturer of decorative cast iron and cast zinc in the second half of the nineteenth century, J.W. Fiske Ironworks. A truly striking piece, lot 61, a monumental American Victorian nineteenth century Fiske cast iron garden urn with egg and dart decorated rim is estimated to fetch $2,000-$4,000. Likewise is a nineteenth century Fiske cast iron standing deer having full rack and curly chest standing on plinth base (lot 62, $1,000-$1,500) and two Fiske cast iron aquariums (lot 31, $1,200-$1,800 and lot 32, $1,000-$1,500).

A large collection of garden and outdoor furniture will feature prominently into the sale. Iron, bronze, and stone seating and benches in a variety of styles will comprise over forty lots. Selected highlights include a very unusual early twentieth century three-part Frank Lloyd Wright style limestone garden bench having triangular top and corresponding base (lot 13, $1,500-$2,500) a very good nineteenth Century carved marble garden bench having slab top supported by winged gargoyles or griffin bases (lot 67, $1,500-$2,500). Several fine Oscar Bach furniture pieces are expected to attract competitive bidding in the auction. Lot 89 is a rare pair of bronze and iron Oscar Bach benches having a centralized shield form plaque framed by centaurs battling serpents circa 1910, estimated at $2,000-$4,000. By the same token is an Oscar Bach marble top brass and wrought iron center table having acanthus leaf adorned elements circa 1900 (lot 92, $4,000-$6,000) and a very good Oscar Bach bronze and iron center table having marble top over pierce decorated bronze apron supported on vine decorated legs framing twisted iron spindles and central medallion circa 1910 (lot 91, $2,500-$3,500).

Among the items of note in the auction, architectural pieces are expected to do well. Lot 130 features four hollow scagliola columns having a flared top and turned base circa 1900 and will be offered at an auction estimate of $3,000-$5,000. Lot 388, a set of fourteen painted and gilt wood architectural brackets circa 1900, is estimated to bring $1,000-$1,500 at auction. Wrought iron highlights include a good pair of cast and wrought iron architectural panels each having central oval framing by scroll work circa 1920 (lot 488 , $300-$600) and a pair of wrought iron panels having central arch and scroll decoration circa 1950 (lot 470, $300-$600). The stained glass category also features many beautiful pieces such as lot 50, a stained glass entryway with two doors circa 1910 estimated at $700-$900.

Yet another special auction offering is found in a World War II era anti-aircraft binocular gunsight telescope marked "Telescope Identification AA Mark III 1943 no. 5141" with tripod and will be offered at an estimate of $600-$900 (lot 457). Additional pieces of great interest include an exquisite late nineteenth Century iron and wrought iron elevator cage having medallion and floral decoration (lot 504, $1,000-$1,800) and a very unusual pair of carved Indiana limestone fists, each having a central hole, possibly a flag holder or architectural element, (lot 16, $800-$1,200).
