JUNE 12-14, 2014, PHILADELPHIA, PA

Kamelot Auction House offers a wonderful selection of property from multiple estates and private collections in its three day Town and County Estate Auction which will take place June 12-14 in Philadelphia. This eclectic auction will offer a global array of works, showcasing pieces from the eighteenth through twentieth centuries. In its entirety, the sale will include more than 1,400 lots spread over the course of three days with Thursday June 12th featuring fine and decorative arts, Friday June 13th featuring Art Deco, mid-century, and design furniture, and Saturday June 14th featuring Continental furniture, garden, and textiles.

The Decorations section of this sale brings an impressive collection of European and American furnishings including clocks, ceramics, silver, glass, bronze and decorative works of art from numerous private collections. Among the most sought after pieces is lot 164, a rare twentieth century Madoura Picasso goat's head ceramic platter signed "P.P. 25" with impressed marks at the bottom. Kamelot will offer this one-of-a-kind piece at $3,000-$5,000. Bronze statutes have seen an enthusiastic market in recent history, and seasoned buyers will surely be smitten with the examples offered in this auction, including lot 146, a beautiful 35” tall bronze statue of a robed woman with a bird by nineteenth century French sculptor Hippolyte Francois Moreau. The original piece is signed by the artist on the base “Hte. Moreau Sculp Exption Salon Des Beaux Arts, 1888” and is estimated at $2,000-$4,000. Lot 147, a monumental white metal sculpture of a woman with wheat resting on a marble base hails from another French sculptor, Mathurin Moreau, and is estimated at $600-$900.

A wide variety of clocks will be offered day one of the sale; most unique among them is a rare collection of Japanese pillar clocks (hashira dokei) circa 1840. Estimated at $600-$900, lot 110 represents a beautiful example, featuring an ornately engraved front plate with flower laden basket theme and butterfly indicators.

More traditional forms of silver will be available to adorn a special occasion table or a preexisting collection on a mantle or sideboard. A Reed & Barton sterling silver service for twenty in the Francis I pattern (total weighable silver = 126.10 troy ounces) consisting of 93 pieces is estimated at $3,000-$4,000 (Lot 275). Also notable is a 112 piece sterling silver flatware set in the Blackington Marie Louise pattern (weighing 115.40 troy ounces) estimated at $800-$1,000 (Lot 273). Collectors of Asian Art will be pleased with the depth of quality and variety of material from collections throughout the country, including jade, ivory, rhinoceros horn, soapstone, porcelain and fine art. Not surprisingly, a 5.5” antique Asian carved rhinoceros horn vessel in the form of a goddess head circa 1900 (lot 15 $1,000-$1,500) is garnering considerable pre-auction attention, due in part to Kamelot’s success with a piece of the same material that grossed over $8,000 at a sale earlier this year. Also following a successful track record, Kamelot’s sale will feature a fine collection of ivory including a stunning Gama Sennin carved Okimono Japanese ivory 'The Toad Sage' circa 1900 (lot 11, $300-$500) and an exquisitely carved ivory depicting a reclining Asian goddess on a fitted stand circa 1920 (lot 6, $400-$600).
