Kamelot Auction House begins the fall 2014 auction season with their annual Twentieth Century Furniture and Design sale slated for Saturday, September 20th in Philadelphia. The sale will showcase modernism from a range of periods and movements represented in over 700 lots of high quality furnishings and décor.

Kamelot has established a strong presence in the auction market as an authority and source for Maison Jansen furniture and objets d’art. One of the twentieth century’s most influential decorating houses, Maison Jansen has been a trendsetting name in interior design since 1880. The aesthetic expands from period reinterpretations to sleek contemporary furniture, fusing traditional design with modern elements. Jansen designs have become very desirable for decorators and collectors across the globe. Kamelot’s sale features an elegant selection from the renowned French decorator to include lighting, mirrors, seating, tables, desks, cabinets, and other furnishings. A fine circa 1940 Maison Jansen set of twelve leather Louis XVI style carved and painted dining chairs having tailored backs and seats trimmed by nail heads includes 2 armchairs and 10 side chairs and is presented with an estimate of $5,000-$7,000 (lot 304). A fine and interesting pair of Maison Jansen attributed eglomise lucite sconces having painted back plates supporting two arms circa 1940 would make a lavish addition to any interior (lot 280, $1,000-$1,500), as would lot 356, a rare matched pair of bronze Jansen coffee tables having X-form frame supporting a glass top circa 1940 ($1,200-$1,800).

A substantial portion of the Kamelot’s Twentieth Century sale hails from the mid-century movement. Prominent artisans are abundantly represented with pieces seen from masters such as Herman Miller, Harvey Probber, Milo Baughman, Finn Juhl, Hans Wegner and Willy Rizzo among many others. Likely to pique strong interest is lot 446, a very good pair of Aldo Tura goatskin dressing cabinets circa 1960 having bronze cornice over three bronze trimmed doors flanked by corner columns and raised on turned bronze legs, estimated at $3,000-$5,000. Another top contender for design enthusiasts is lot 485 a, very good Frederico Armijo signed carved pine snail table having round glass top circa 1970 ($1,500-$2,500) as well as lot 515, an Ernest Trova attributed cast iron figural sculpture having a border ring with four figural mounts, all raised on marble base, estimated at $2,000-$4,000.
