Kamelot Auctions has amassed over 900 lots of quality, fresh merchandise in a wide array of categories for their upcoming auction that will be held in two separate sessions at Kamelot’s Philadelphia gallery on Thursday, October 16th and Saturday, October 18th. Thursday’s sale will feature a single owner collection of 450+ boxes recently removed from the premises of a prominent New York lighting dealer including chandeliers, sconces, lanterns, lighting parts & elements, as well as other antique accessories – a true treasure trove of items for dealers. All of the items are fresh to the market and have been in storage for more than 50 years. Saturday’s sale will feature architectural antiques, Victorian furniture, and a one-owner collection of 300+ clocks to include tall case, regulators, wall and shelf, among many other – all of which will be offered with no reserves. Together the two sales offer a combination of items that will appeal to a wide variety of bidders - from dealers, designers, and collectors, to hobbyists and novice buyers alike.

On Thursday, October 18th the sale will begin at 10AM and over 300 lots will cross the auction block, all of which will feature antique lighting; chandeliers, lanterns, sconces, gasoliers, lamps, torchieres, carriage lanterns, candelabrum, and much more. The sale offers a large selection of chandeliers to suit every taste and pocket. Some of the more elaborate of these include lot 7, a large gilt wood and bronze beaded six arm chandelier circa 1890 ($600-$900), lot 183, an early twentieth century cut crystal and matched glass chandelier, comprised of three concentric graduated tiers of rectangular faceted jewels joined by cascading pendant crystal chains ($200-$400), and lot 112, a French gilt bronze and cut crystal basket form chandelier circa 1900, the corona having scrolled plumes suspending pendant chains, the circlet originally draped with pleated silk and decorated with various shaped cut crystals ($400-$600).

Also plentiful are sconces, with a variety of styles, designs, and periods to choose from. A set of three important French gilt bronze two-light gas sconces circa 1870, each having a superbly executed chimera mask, the scrolled bifurcated branches terminating in the form of a sea serpent will be offered at a pre-sale estimate of $1,500-$2,500 (lot 182), and an outstanding dore bronze five arm wall sconce having scrolling arms terminating in female faces circa 1890 are presented at $500-$800 (lot 159). Other examples include a nineteenth century Italian Rococo style carved gilt wood eight-light wall sconce having pierced carved scroll and shell design (lot 139, $200-$400), a lot of seven sconces, each having three arms coming from carved wood sunflowers circa 1900 (lot 201, $500-$700), and a pair of large and impressive late nineteenth century gilt wood and gilt and patinated bronze three-light wall sconces, each with a cartouche shaped plaque centered by a cherub mash (lot 68, $400-$600).

An eclectic sampling of lanterns offers something for every taste. Lot 48, a pair of ornate late nineteenth century gilt and silvered brass, tole, and cut glass carriage lanterns, each surrounded by a heroic eagle above concentric foliate bands, the cut glass panes alternating with red and blue glass panes terminating in an acorn pendant comes at a an estimate of $400-$600 and represents just one of the many lots of carriage lanterns in the sale. Other highlighted lots include an American Egyptian Revival bronzed, zinc, and brass hall pendant gasolier circa 1870, the corona displaying stylized palmetto continuing to brass rods joined to projecting sphinx centering a single burner (lot 303, $200-$400), a lot of three early twentieth century faceted glass bead ceiling mounted dome form lights, each having various sized beads on metal frame (lot 48, $300-$600), and a Louis XVI style blown glass and gilt brass lantern having inverted pear shaped bowl with knotted pendant suspended by beaded chains circa 1900 (lot 119, $200-$400).

Lighting parts and elements on offer include ceiling and wall mounts, light fittings, sconce back plates, chandelier frames, chandelier arms, shades, globes/domes, bobeches, posts, roundels, and much more. Examples of architectural elements include table legs, plaques, panels, plinths, pedestals, finials, atheniennes, epergnes, and carvings. The aforementioned lighting parts and architectural elements come in a host of materials; bronze, brass, wrought iron, wood, gilt wood, stone, silver plate, glass, crystal, beaded, marble, alabaster , lucite, zinc, porcelain, wirework, copper, and porcelain, and more. Chosen highlights include a lot of four late nineteenth century gilt wood carved architectural elements, each having grape bundle, leaf and wheat decoration (lot 35, $300-$600), a pair of carved alabaster shades from a pair of Art Deco torchieres (lot 99 100-$300), an eighteenth century Continental carved and polychrome decorated frame (lot 310, $300-$600), and several lots of patinated bronze light fittings possibly by Tiffany including a set of four early twentieth century patinated bronze circular light fittings with Classical design (lot 54, $600-$900).

Kamelot’s traditional October sale will take place on Saturday October 18th, including Victorian furniture and architect ural antiques along with a one owner collection of 300 + clocks. As always, Kamelot will offer a quality selection of Victorian furniture. Lot 499 is a very good American Renaissance Revival center table having elaborate marquetry inlaid top framed by burled banding and bronze trim circa 1870 and is presented with a pre-sale estimate of $2,500-$ 3,500. With the same estimate is lot 506, a very good American Victorian Gothic style mahogany secretary having carved cornice with central cartouche flanked by finials circa 1850. Chair highlights include a set of six matching laminated walnut Victorian dining chairs attributed to George Henkels including one arm and five sides circa 1870 (lot 556, $400-$600), a set of six Victorian walnut arm chairs with cain seats circa 1880 (lot 572, $300-$500), and a good set of ten French classically inspired wrought iron garden chairs having arched decorated back splats over screened shaped seat circa 1950 (lot 755, $1,000-$1,500). Likewise, other seating choices are lot 706, a Moorish inspired French Napoleon III settee having original mohair upholstery and shaped back with open scrolling arms circa 1890 ($1,200-$ 1,800), and lot 578, a nicely carved American Victorian walnut triple hump back sofa, the back and skirt having relief carvings and tufted upholstery circa 1870 ($400-$800). A late Victorian full size brass bed (lot 573, $300-$500), a Modern Gothic walnut bed (lot 587, $600-$900), and an Art Nouveau nickel over bronze queen size bed having a central swan and grotesque mask medallion flanked by vertical stiles circa 1930 (lot 718, $700-$ 1,100) are just some of the many beds available in the sale.

Over 300 other clocks will be offered, many of them rare and vintage examples by noted clock makers such as Welch, Ansonia, Waterbury, Kroeber, Durfee, Gilbert, Chelsea and Seth Thomas. Featured will be jewelers' regulators, French annulars, skeleton clocks, wall and mantle clocks, weight-driven wall regulators, double-dial calendar clocks, pocket clocks, grandfather clocks and clock accessories. A superb solid eighteen karat Tiffany & Co. Geneva chronograph pocket watch, double signed circa 1880 (lot 444, $600-$900) and a magnificent quadruple signed eighteen karat Patek Phillipe pocket watch, serial number 158749 circa 1912 (lot 469, $600-$900) are just two of the many fine pocket watches in this sale. Other highlights among the clock collection are lot 369 an elaborate onyx and bronze French mantle clock signed Amour Combattant Par Aug. Moreau circa 1880 ($800-$1,200), lot 371, a white marble and bronze Empire mantle clock having a silk thread suspension and swag ormolu decoration signed 'Levol A Paris' circa 1840 ($800-$1,200), and lot 378 an exceptional hall clock in mahogany made for the "Bailey, Banks & Biddle, Co. Philadelphia" circa 1910 ($1,000-$1,500).
