Kamelot Auctions' annual Mid-Century and Design sale was held on Saturday February 28th in Philadelphia, attracting interior designers and private collectors alike. The sale offered an array of fine furniture, lighting, and sculpture from the Art Deco, Modernist, and Contemporary movements.

The sale presented a variety of furniture, fine art, and decorative arts items to which bidders responded with great enthusiasm. Surpassing its pre-sale estimate of $1,000 - $2,000, a Hanneke Beaumont bronze figural sculpture titled ''Kneeling Man'' (lot 488) sold for $14,000 to a private collector in Monaco. Also surpassing its estimate, lot 177, a stainless steel sculpture by Ernest Trova titled ''Falling Man” sold for $8,400 to a buyer from the artist’s home town of St. Louis, Missouri. Yet another stunner was lot 11, a bronze sculpture by British artist Henry Moore titled ''Seated Mother and Child'' which sold for $6,200.

Furniture – another staple at Kamelot - brought successful results across the board. Chairs in particular did well, highlights included lot 96, a large and low slung pair of cerused oak angular armchairs covered in deer skin which sold for $10,000, and lot 17, a sophisticated pair of ebonized club chairs in the manner of Jean Michel Frank circa 1945 which sold for $5,400. A very good Jansen attributed blued steel and bronze dining table having inset black glass top over bronze trimmed apron received quite a bit of attention from designers and exceeded estimates selling for $7,812.50. Other tables that performed well included an exceptional brass and chrome glass top coffee table with very heavy construction circa 1970 which sold for $5,750 (lot 286), and a good pair of birdseye maple and macassar Art Deco style tables which sold for $5,200 (lot 146). Also impressive was lot 16, a Bakalowits & Sohne sputnik chandelier circa 1960 which sold for $8,125.

With the conclusion of this successful sale, Kamelot looks forward to their renowned Garden and Architectural Antiques Sale coming up on Saturday April 18th. For more information call 215-438-6990 or visit www.kamelotauctions.com.
