Lot 322	Lot 57

Numerous urns and planters also made an appearance at the auction, with many selling top prices. Lot 57 and 58 showcased two pairs of French cast iron garden urns having stepped rim over large bowl supported on elongated pedestal circa 1900. Both pairs were presented with estimates of $800-$1200 and after a slew of competitive bidding brought a combined $12,250. Similarly was lot 322, a very fine and rare pair of French nineteenth century cast iron and enamel decorated conservatory planters which brought a whopping $10,000, and lot 330, a monumental pair of nineteenth century American Victorian Adams garden urns having form bowl with openwork handles which brought $6,000.

Sculptural works, both classic and modern, also performed well at the sale. Lot 76 was a monumental yet graceful twentieth century sculpture titled “Eternal Flame” by Prince Monyo Simon Mihailescu-Nasturel. The unique piece sold for $5,250. Classical highlights include lot 325, a very good Italian Grand Tour style bronze half life-sized running athlete after the antique figure found in Pompeii which sold for $9,700, and lot 363, a fine and monumental cast iron garden sculpture of an elegant woman with flowing hair and out stretched arm supporting a spread wing bird which sold for $9,000. Animal sculptural works have always been popular in the garden antiques arena, and this sale provided many stunning examples. Highlights include lot 362, a very good pair of nineteenth century Robert Wood, Philadelphia cast iron life sized standing lions which sold for $8,100, and lot 367, a pair of bronze horses, one standing at attention and the other in a grazing position by American artist Jim Davidson, which sold for $8,000.
